Quick, Cozy Socks: Velveteen Slipper Socks Pattern Review

When Nicole of Woolfield Studio released these socks on her day for the Season of Socks 2020, I knew they would be my first project in 2021. These are a sister pattern to her Shag Carpet Shorties which I tested a couple years ago. I almost never knit the same pattern twice, but I did knit those twice, the second time as a sample for a dyer! Because my feet are almost always cold at home (my best friend once accused me of secretly strapping ice packs to my feet to make my toes as cold as they are, LOL), I really like DK socks. Aside from the extra warmth,…

A Festive, Cozy Sock – Humbug Socks Review

After my province announced new Covid restrictions a week into December that would last through Christmas, I was pretty grumpy. Since knitting is often an emotion-management tool for me one of my reactions was that I needed to cast on a new project. And since it had been over a month since I finished my Roadtrip Socks, plus Season of Socks was about to begin, I felt like the new cast on should be socks. I was scrolling through my Ravelry library for socks I wanted to make, and had the perfect yarn for in my stash. I got to the section that had been purchased about a year ago,…

    Tools Washcloth Pattern

This third pattern for my December-release washcloths was a specific request by my friend for her husband. And I think it might be my favourite from this “collection” (including the F1 Racecar washcloth & Running Shoe Washcloth). The washcloth includes a measuring tape, hammer, and screwdriver. When I finished it I sent my friend a message that said “I feel like this is a weird thing to say, but that hammer turned out really cute!” Really, who ever heard of a cute hammer? Scroll down for the FREE pattern, or get the printable PDF for $2. This washcloth is definitely reversible and unlike the other 2 washcloths in the collection,…

    F1 Racecar Washcloth

Another of the knit washcloths I designed for my friend for Christmas is an F1 racecar. This turned out to be one of the more challenging designs I’ve done because the size of knit stitches in dishcloth cotton is rather large, and current F1 cars are highly detailed and refined. This particular car is my rough depiction of the 2019 Ferrari F1, but when I asked my friend who works for Ferrari if he knew what it was, he did say it was a Ferrari…just a much older version than the one I was aiming for… I actually originally abandoned this design because the shape seemed incompatible with a knit…

    So Faded Sweater Pattern Review

I spent A LOT of time choosing yarn for this sweater. I’ve been wanting to make it for years, but I also didn’t want to buy a fade kit to make it – I felt like that was cheating. So making this sweater wasn’t going to be just a demonstration of knitting, but of my ability to put together yarns. And even though the colours in Andrea Mowry’s sample of the So Faded were quite different, I really wanted to get more of a gradient effect in my sweater. My first attempt was ordering from the now non-existent We Love Knitting. But it turned out 1 of the 3 was…

Make the Nowel Christmas Tree Skirt

I have had a number of ideas for Christmas tree skirts floating around in my head for years. It’s partially because I have had my own Christmas tree for 5 years (this is year 6), and have never had a tree skirt, mostly because I couldn’t find one I really liked. Or couldn’t decide, I am a very deliberative person. Then this year my sister asked me for a tree skirt for herself. She has a pencil tree because when she and her husband first got married they lived in a pretty small apartment that was just over 400 square feet, and even though there wasn’t much space, there was…

The Coziest Sweater Ever: Pattern Testing The October Sweater

When I saw the testing call from Lindsay of Standard Knits for this sweater I was immediately tempted. So I thought about it. I looked at yarns, priced them out, looked to see what was in stock at Michael’s. I determined I could get enough yarn fairly affordably, so I applied. Once I had the pattern I picked up some of the yarn from one of the Michael’s on my radar so I could collect enough yarn for the sweater. And as any good tester must do, I did my gauge swatch. The yarn I had picked out was Loops & Threads Camden Wool. It turned out I couldn’t quite…

Pattern Testing the Road Trip Socks

When I saw that Rachael of Maven Crafted was looking for pattern testers, and then saw the sock, it was the fastest I have applied for a test knit all year! One of the things I love about testing socks, is that I pretty much always have the yarn available. They are the best project when you have one skein or less of yarn. And for these ones, I had the perfect sock set from an Autumn & Indigo sock club just waiting for the pattern that would show off the yarn best! And with all the pictures you’re about to see, I think you’ll agree this was a great…

    Butter Sweet Candy Corn Washcloth

Next up after the Great Pumpkin Patch Washcloth, in my October themed washcloths, is a candy corn washcloth. Did you know that originally this candy was called “Chicken Feed”? I thought this wasn’t particularly descriptive as I was looking for something other than just Candy Corn for the name of this pattern. But I did see that old packages of candy corn described the candy as being “butter sweet”, and given the colour I chose to knit my washcloth in, butter sweet seemed perfect! Scroll down for the FREE pattern, or get the printable PDF for $2. The washcloth has 3 rows of candy corn, with the middle row offset from the…
