#matchingyarns

Yarn:

1. Spun thread used for knitting, [crocheting], weaving, or sewing

2. A long or rambling story…

Oxford English Dictionary

I’ve noticed a lot of knitters and crocheters also like to read. And I’ve mentioned before how it can help stoke creative fires. Many of us lament the difficulty of doing these two hobbies at the same time. But, a lot of us do make the time to indulge both, as seen in the popularity of Hello Stella’s Kniterary Society.

The first Kniterary Society book, and my matching No Seam Sweater Dress (Knitatude)

Especially over the summer, I tend to read quite a bit. This means that my books often make their way into the pictures I post on Instagram. And I am more likely to include my book if it matches at least one wip. After my latest matching post I was inspired to come up with a hashtag so we could all show off these aesthetically pleasing coincidences. I wanted it to be a little bit clever, since all the best books are. And I didn’t want it to be overly long, as all the good books are not. (Not that long books can’t be good, but sometimes books are way too long without having interesting enough substance to justify the length).

#matchingyarnandbook was boring, #bookoordinatedwip seemed kind of long and not very clear. But it has been stuck in my head for awhile the use of the word yarn in a non-fiber way, to describe a story. After weeks of mulling it over, #matchingyarns made its way into my head.

For now this is just a hashtag to use when your yarn or wip matches your book. I hope to share these photos in my Instagram stories, so if nothing else it can help share some pictures and accounts that some people may not have otherwise seen. And maybe find a new book to read! Perhaps in the future there will be the potential for collaborations, guest blog posts, and prizes! There are after all lots of book-related notions and patterns out there. If you have any ideas we can collaborate on please feel free to send me a DM on Instagram or shoot me an email!

I can’t wait to see all those pretty projects with all those pretty books!
