    Cables Fir Christmas Tree Skirt

Cable knits and Christmas are becoming a strong association in my mind. You may already have noticed, given the 3 patterns I released for Christmas 2020, all on the same cabled theme. I really wasn’t intending to release much in the way of knitting patterns this Christmas, maybe a washcloth pattern (stay tuned!) but nothing else. With a full time job, part time job, and being a part time student, I was less than inspired to knit in general through the summer and early fall, let alone come up with patterns! But then inspiration struck. First of all, largely because it’s the biggest, a tree skirt. A very knit-worthy friend…

Quick, Cozy Socks: Velveteen Slipper Socks Pattern Review

When Nicole of Woolfield Studio released these socks on her day for the Season of Socks 2020, I knew they would be my first project in 2021. These are a sister pattern to her Shag Carpet Shorties which I tested a couple years ago. I almost never knit the same pattern twice, but I did knit those twice, the second time as a sample for a dyer! Because my feet are almost always cold at home (my best friend once accused me of secretly strapping ice packs to my feet to make my toes as cold as they are, LOL), I really like DK socks. Aside from the extra warmth,…

Make the Nowel Christmas Tree Skirt

I have had a number of ideas for Christmas tree skirts floating around in my head for years. It’s partially because I have had my own Christmas tree for 5 years (this is year 6), and have never had a tree skirt, mostly because I couldn’t find one I really liked. Or couldn’t decide, I am a very deliberative person. Then this year my sister asked me for a tree skirt for herself. She has a pencil tree because when she and her husband first got married they lived in a pretty small apartment that was just over 400 square feet, and even though there wasn’t much space, there was…

The Coziest Sweater Ever: Pattern Testing The October Sweater

When I saw the testing call from Lindsay of Standard Knits for this sweater I was immediately tempted. So I thought about it. I looked at yarns, priced them out, looked to see what was in stock at Michael’s. I determined I could get enough yarn fairly affordably, so I applied. Once I had the pattern I picked up some of the yarn from one of the Michael’s on my radar so I could collect enough yarn for the sweater. And as any good tester must do, I did my gauge swatch. The yarn I had picked out was Loops & Threads Camden Wool. It turned out I couldn’t quite…

Pattern Testing the Road Trip Socks

When I saw that Rachael of Maven Crafted was looking for pattern testers, and then saw the sock, it was the fastest I have applied for a test knit all year! One of the things I love about testing socks, is that I pretty much always have the yarn available. They are the best project when you have one skein or less of yarn. And for these ones, I had the perfect sock set from an Autumn & Indigo sock club just waiting for the pattern that would show off the yarn best! And with all the pictures you’re about to see, I think you’ll agree this was a great…
