Pattern Review: Vintage Fairy Lights Socks

I really should write my pattern review blog posts as soon as I finish making an object, since time can pass quickly, and my memories of making things may diminish… I finished my 2nd sock in October…it’s now May…

This pattern was part of the first Sockvent leading up to Christmas 2018, I got most of the patterns that year and am still working on making all of them. After I had chosen different yarn for my Fairy Dust Socks, I thought this Angel Aura from Songbyrdy still needed a “fairy” pattern, so it was time to start the Vintage Fairy Lights Socks by Helen Stewart (Curious Handmade).

These socks come in just one size, as a 64 stitch sock, which fits a lot of women’s feet. The ribbing across the top of the foot, and below the fairy lights pattern on the leg makes it a little snug so that it can accommodate smaller feet. I do find them a little snug to get on, even though I do usually make a medium / 64 stitch sock.

The pattern itself is very easy to read, because it is set up as a table, giving you very clear lines for each row, as well as a stitch count, which proves quite helpful as the stitch count does change through the fairy lights.

I really enjoyed learning a different stitch pattern to make these fairy lights, and it looks so good in this light-coloured, lightly variegated yarn, and I’ve seen so many versions made in lightly speckled socks that are very pretty too.
