On Repeat

As previously mentioned, there are a million patterns out there. While of course you probably don’t want to make all of them, there are probably a lot of them you do want to make. This means that there is just no reason to ever make the same pattern twice.

I know there are people out there who make something, and love it so much that they immediately make another. I heard of a fellow tester making 4 pairs of English Garden Reading Socks in a month. And during the My Beginner Raglan KAL there were many people who finished this super fast pattern and immediately started another one. This is just generally not how I operate.

There are 2 exceptions I’ve found so far:

  1. Gifts
  2. Sample knitting

There are 3 things that have made there way into category 1 so far: an Abruzzo sweater made for my sister last Christmas, the True North Toque one made so far for a friend, and more on the way, and the Alpine Hat for a couple friends. I typically enjoy making gifts for friends and family, so long as its appreciated of course, and my friends do appreciate it. I typically take note of when friends say they like an item and would love to have one. Of course in the case of the Abruzzo sweater, my sister just kept asking where hers was every time she saw mine.

There are some dyers that ask for sample knitters, and some for who I will take any chance to get my hands on their yarn. Autumn & Indigo is one of those dyers. Since she was interested in having a pair of Shag Carpet Shorties made as samples, I was very happy to choose that pattern to make again.

What makes a pattern repeatable? For me it has to be reasonably fast (i.e. a toque) and pretty fun (i.e. Shag Carpet Shorties). Repeating projects does also give you the chance to see how a different colour or yarn looks and feels with a great pattern! I made a black and white, and purple and white Alpine Hat and it was so fun to see the different colours!

What pattern have you done multiple times?
